CPEC And Balochistan

China-Pakistan economic corridor, famously called CPEC in Pakistan, is part of China's one belt one road(OBOR) which is the other name of Chinese economic and strategic dominance on the world.
Gwadar is the hub of the China-Pakistan economic corridor, as its deep-sea port will be used by Chinese for the trade.

Gwadar port has been handed over to Chinese. After this, there is a perception that Pakistan will progress in economic terms so do Balochistan will. But residents of Balochistan have quite contrary views regarding this project. They have reservations and they are right in their thinking. As we have seen locals of Balochistan are not being given their true share in this project. All mega projects of cpec have been allocated to Punjab. Even Gwadar itself has seen no change in its fate since the start of this project, how can other residents of Balochistan expect a change in their destiny. There is no clean water to drink for citizens of Gwadar. Electricity is another major issue in the area. The two mega projects which were to be built in Balochistan were "Quetta Mass transit" and "Pat feeder canal water supply to Quetta" which are now dropped from the cpec.

Balochistan is again neglected in cpec, as it has been in the past by Pakistani state. This has increased the sense of deprivation. Especially Baloch youth is having more hatred in their hearts for the state. They are aggressively presenting their opinion against the state and that is resulting in states repression of Baloch youths movement for their rights. Residents of Baloch are facing an extreme level of economic injustice. Most of the people are living in extreme poverty. Even the Gwadar port is not solving their economic woes. Residents of Gwadar are deprived of their lands by government and military which are mostly dominated by Punjab. The role of the government of Balochistan can be seen merely in this whole issue. They are purely acting as "puppet government" on behalf of Federal government and Establishment.
